Grohl, the lovesick rock, had already proved his directorial talents with Sound city. He accompanies this album an 8-part documentary. I recommend this miniseries to fully appreciate the compositions of sonic highways, it gives them more relief and a new sense.
We are far from their start certainly. Without being my favorite album, there is good, less good (forgettable) and very good! The structure and mounted power Something From Nothing is breathtaking, The Feast and The Famine distills a very effective rock and I am a River is a haunting and scotchante track.
The realization is impeccable (thank you Butch Vig), musically it's like always neat. The downside it would be the lack daudace on certain securities and no more pests titles and explosives. But I think it was not the subject of this album, the FF continent to evolve and their next album may as well be the opposite of this.
