Rust Never Sleeps (Audio CD)

Customer Review

"Rust Never Sleeps" is one of the better boards of Neil Young - and one of the most successful: In the American "Rolling Stone" it was in 1979, both with the critics as well as readers of the magazine "Album of the Year". And even though it contains a few large, even the most important songs, I could never get used over the entire length with her. But "My My, Hey Hey (Out Of The Blue)" is after more than 3 decades a monument of a song and a statement: "My my, hey hey / Rock and Roll is here to stay" or (the better known version ) "Hey hey, my my / rock and roll can never die" - it's simple and concise? No. With the opener of this album is Neil Young is a direct link between Elvis Presley, who had 2 years ago opened the largest barbiturate custodian of the United States in the happy hunting grounds, and Punk, which exploded at the same time: "The King is gone but he's Not Forgotten / Is this the story of Johnny Rotten "- Young will have understood that a merit of the first punk wave was to a decent shot to return the many places arg Conservatory capable become rock music originality. That was apparently all in his mind, and when you get closer with his music, especially with the stuff he did with Crazy Horse, is concerned, not even one wonders about: Peer to peer Neil Young was the latest from "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere "the strongman and Simple; the type made up of virtuosity not as much but made expression without end had. The second side of the LP of "Rust Never Sleeps" and documents his Crazy Horses efforts to generate their own punk sound, but Page 1 is the better on this record: "Thrasher", what a sumptuous paintings! One can almost see the vastness of American landscapes, the prairie, the buffalo, the giant Fender amp ... and the Rocky Mountains where Crosby, Stills & Nash disoriented and with Kokskrümeln stumbling around in his beard, because of which is the story and it as they were in Youngs view to tragic figures of fun in their Superstar decadence while he walks with a "... one-way ticket to the land of truth ..." in his hand on a better path - one of the most impressive moments in his work; only he, his twelve-string and the "Hohner Marine Band" -Mundharmonika. Dennis Hopper used "Thrasher" in 1980 in his terribly disillusioning film "Out Of The Blue"; Some great strip, though perhaps not for a nice evening with Grandma & Grandpa; was published in 2006 in "Koch Media" on nice deal made DVD, out of print since. Hehe.
"Ride My Llama" is a story about Kiffer aliens that makes you think that Young and Erich von Däniken would have probably had a lot to say, and "Pocahontas" a play about the genocide of the Native Americans. The original guitar-and-voice-take of this song was created in 1975, and you can find him in the years circulating (and sometimes mighty good or at least interesting) "Chrome Dreams" -Bootleg. For the "Rust Never Sleeps" version Young added more guitars, vocals and atmospheric echoes almost reminiscent of U2. Then decides "Sail Away" the acoustic half of the album and attacks the relaxed vibe of certain "Harvest" pieces on ("Out On Weekend" for example). Very nice.
"Powderfinger" Good heavens! What I have left me already about "Powderfinger"! One of the biggest, if not perhaps the biggest Neil Young's song, perhaps greater than "Like A Hurricane". The story about a very young man (probably in the 19th century), which will not make it at the end, the looters who came to the "white ... boat ... ', somewhat oppose - but is shot first, his face looks flashed in the sky and "... with so much left undone ..." leaves the earth. An anti-violence song? That would be a gross reduction of such a piece of art. It is not about any message. "It's just a scene, y'know?" Neil Young himself said this - with all due respect, the great masters: No scene rather have an entire film. Nevertheless: The definitive version of this number can be found on "Live Rust". "Live" is "Rust Never Sleeps" mostly well, only that the crowd noises were removed in studio on the other. Who pricks up his ears, even caught a few, especially the applause when perhaps the most famous line that Young has ever written: "It's better to burn out than to fade away" - Kurt Cobain was also put the recorder away and took the shotgun in his mouth. Sip.
"Welfare Mothers" is pretty stupid, but rocking violently - if there would not be this stupid handclaps that were made to later. Take this throwaway song much of its primitive punch. Here we find the Definitive and end up desolate fraying version on the 1991 live album "Weld". The second half of "Rust Never Sleeps" brings not just in all their songs, keeping with the theme, "Punk", an electric from the first second audible change in Neil Young's guitar sound with it: Significantly less gung-ho-lyrical than on the great "Zuma" sounds here everything flat, thick and distorted, and there are a number of effects (including a truly apocalyptic roaring octave), which had been built by Youngs technicians in a fairly large custom stress board that ever since an after wearing it - at least whenever electric guitar should be played. The bursting, like a broken previous to the right place amplifier sounding sound, which he used at the end of "Rust Never Sleeps" for "Hey Hey, My My" - so horny broken sounds none! Many also want to not sound so! Please also note the "Weld" hear -Einspielung because the better it gets. The version on "Rust Never Sleeps" is the same as on the "Live Rust" (Cow Palace, San Francisco, 28.10.1978), without an audience, but with overdubs: Billy Talbot rhythmic skin against a door. According to Frank Sampedro said to have performed "We Will Rock You" to that idea precisely Queens. Unfortunately a similar debilitating effect as said "Welfare Mothers" -Geklatsche.
"Sedan Delivery" finally Youngs and Crazy Horses is the most obvious attempt to play a kind of punk song. Anyone who has heard the much slower, but not halftime in the chorus played version of "Chrome Dreams", know what I mean. But even as the number haute not go, and Crazy Horse are not punk band ... OK, compared to seasoned professional musicians of their generation, they are perhaps even yet, but this dumb two-four beat under this Heindoofi Reef has on poor days already times Fremdschämen produced in me. All right. Nevertheless, good plate!
