A fierce but enchanting world

Meg Corbyn T1 Scarlet Letters (Paperback)

Customer Review

The history of our world and the evolution has been rewritten and our beautiful planet, there are two different species: human and indigenous terra, also called the Others. This cohabitation does not happen smoothly but indigenous terra make the effort to accept humans on their territory and to trade with them, according to the saying "keep your friends close and your enemies even more closely." It is their way to get to know them and especially to monitor.
This novel is fierce. The Others live according to their ancestral laws and in their eyes, humans represent only fresh meat. They call them monkeys, because humans are only hairless apes. It sets the tone!
Between these two completely different worlds survive Cassandra Sangue. Human exploitation of women for their blood and prophecies when they announce they intersect.
Meg is one of those female slaves. She managed to escape and hide in the Yard Lakeside, in the heart of the other community. His innocence, his kindness and his willingness to give the best of herself in her work is the appreciation of the creatures that never offer a second chance.
This is not a novel full of action, sex or romance. No, it's just the opposite. It is a novel that takes the time to settle down, to present each character, each landscape .... but you never get bored one second.
In a book as "raw", as dark, the author has managed to insert really strong moments of humor. The behavior of wolves and ravens, their mannerisms, their sweets are so well detailed that they become alive.
I loved Sam and his behavior Cub ... and to use poor Meg like a squeaky toy!
If this book is not a concentrated action as I said above, it remains completely addictive, mesmerizing ... and we reserve a grand purpose.
Given the fact that the author talent show with this first volume, I have no doubt about the quality of the next book and look forward.
