A few weeks ago I came across the notice for the new board of Antlers and although I wanted to dampen my anticipation if the recent weaker disc, I caught myself repeatedly in how I looked on Amazon, when Familiars would at last appear now. Somehow great things announce in advance or the previous concoctions unfold again a magical finish. Who knows? And so it was not surprising that Hospice, the last herzzerschmetternde exploit the Antlers was again more likely to be found on my turntable to shorten the waiting time. When it was time, the expectations seemed once again much too big for what was to follow. Because let's face, with Palace we glide quite popig and shallow in the album into. Only in a few locations, where use in the background, the wind, you get a premonition of the direction, who want to pursue the Antlers with this record. The intro of the following piece-alike shows us then that they have lured us with the entry on the wrong track. From the pompous pop posturing is henceforth no longer be heard. We are now in a narrow alley and follow veregneten dark shapes through the middle of the night, for reasons we can only guess. Or so it happened to me while listening to the second piece. The instrumentation is similar to before, but completely shut reduced in width. Singing and individual instruments occur dense soundscapes into the foreground and work. From the brass section, a single trumpet has become, of an inimitable flair Film Noir produced together with a string and a lumbering heavy blue electric guitar, while frontman announced sinister in a soft voice. The nice thing is that the band has subsequently decided it to continue on the path of Doppelgänger. In some places the gloom lifts slightly and blues and pop join sometimes then Country influences. What may sound out of round, but is extremely easy to use and creates a dense soundscape that has become a hallmark of the chapel. Granted, it's not such a profound and unsettling, as it was heard in Hospice. Nevertheless, the opener Palace appears at the end just like a pale memory of their last album Burst Apart weaker and thus has the five star fully deserves. However, the perceived eight or nine stars from Hospice, it can not heranzureichen. But that's whining to damn high level!
