These sessions come at a pivotal moment in the trajectory of John Coltrane, when the constitution of his legendary quartet (with Tyner, Jones and Garrison)
Here the group is increased by Eric Dolphy and some others to "India". Dolphy is very inspired in his solos and well integrated into the group.
The agreement between Coltrane, Tyner and Jones is already very interesting and the music suffers. In fact, these live sessions are a centerpiece of the discography of John Coltrane.
We find in these records some spiritual arrangements that prefigure following the Careers of this legendary quartet ... I think particularly of "Spiritual" declined several times over the evening at the Village.
Note the amazing interpretations of "Impressions" and some beautiful ballads that allow some breathing room.
The more than four hours of recording is proposed swallow at once and we want more as the music played by these musicians is wonderful.
This set is a must for any fan of Jazz and many others ...
