The 2014 Danger Visit Records released "axiom" the British rock band Archive was conceived as a total work of art. The always surrounded by high class artists heads of the band, Darius Keeler and Danny Griffith, in his own words had always had the feeling that their music sounds mostly to soundtracks, without that there is indeed the corresponding film. With "Michel Vaillant" They had, however, ever done a fantastic soundtrack, which also separately as a full album, works great, but the only way. Archive did so now with the Spanish director Jesus Hernandez together and developed in parallel with the music an almost 40-minute short film, which should form a visual unity with the music. For this ambitious project Barnard were with Pollard Berrier, Maria Q, Holly Martin and Dave Pen on Micro, Steve Harris on guitar, Jon Noice on bass / Moog bass, Steve "Smiley" resorted to the drums on proven or high-class musicians, to handle Dave Pen also times in the strings and Graham Prescott supported a number of times on the piano, while Keeler programmed and controlled in the keyboard keys griff.Griffith sound effects bei.Den majority of the compositions denied as usual Keeler, this was from some other in the band diligently supported. "Axiom" So, despite binding to the film, a full Archive album, consists not only of atmospheric sounds. The ominous-oppressive visual impressions of the film were packed in a practically in black / white held, fancy retro look that acts surreal and gloomy, technically perhaps reminiscent of Metropolis, headstrong, intense and disturbing. The film was shown instead of an opening act during the "Restriction" tour on canvas and woke me spontaneously associations toward inquisition and fanaticism, what the topic probably comes close. The music fits the perfectly (or vice versa). Metallic clanking sound, threatening church bells, strings, velvety female voices alternate and combine to form an atmosphere which is sacred, artful, intense. A "space" strength tone, dark soundscapes, effects, melancholy moods combine to form a closed concept ,, the archives once again prove that they are among the most interesting, most exciting things rock music (and music in general) not only currently has to offer. The fact that they are attributed to the trip-hop and alternative rock, does not really matter; for me they are progressive in the first place, and in the truest sense of the word, because they always go forward, try something new, without losing the soul of the music out of mind to lose. Also, the term art rock true verbatim because what makes the band there is really ambitious and artistically. Archive solve again and again deep feelings on hearing of which we know of old genius rock bands without imitating and without sounding artificial Retro. Archives are a true original, a modern, exciting band that is complex and varied on feelings and atmosphere, without neglecting the rhythm for me. With "Axiom" they deliver on their next masterpiece, just wonderful.
The sound is OK so far, but the vinyl record sounds better than the CD, as on CD Driven much higher and especially the dynamics reduced wurde. Was only ever intended ... The best deal is the vinyl edition for me, because there the CD and the DVD are included (!). I call that fair, especially as the price (at least not currently) corresponds to a pure vinyl disc. One can also buy CD with DVD without vinyl.
