Counting among the rare books chronicling the Indochina war, I expected to spend a great evening with this book. Really written as a chronology, 80% of the pages deals with the political aspect of the conflict situation in the region Cambodia Laos, as well as Franco-American relations which then led to the US stance in the Gulf of Tonkin. The beginning is more original, painting a portrait of this colony might be the Indochina between the two world wars, its administrative organization and its cultural specificities. The military conflict is very rarely mentioned, which is a shame for this important episode in the colonial empire. In short, we often have the impression of experiencing a high school history book speaking majority of the décolinisation via talks "political" of Indochina which is somewhat at odds with what we could expect. I also specifies that handwriting font is quite small, and that footer brands (sometimes longer as the rest of the text on that page) make quite tiring reading.
