I found the original subject and very well treated. Here, no pretense about addiction and its consequences. It spares us nothing. Maxx is a real junkie, additional dealer. He suffers from his condition, but at the same time enjoys unscrupulous. This is a very well built character, very realistic. Blinded by his need, he does not care to do harm to others or to oneself. That's pretty scary. Aubrey will try to help him regain a healthier life, but it is far from easy.
I really liked that aspect of the novel. It is both fascinating and depressing. During my reading, I felt ill at ease to see how things went, how Maxx could as easily juggle between all facets of his personality, how Aubrey forgave him everything. But I wanted to learn more, because you can not help but wonder how it will all conclude. And we must say that for once, the end of the first volume is very frustrating!
By cons, strangely, I did not adhere to their love story, which is why this novel, even if it's interesting, do not hit me. I find Aubrey is far too fascinated by Maxx and his "cult guru charisma". I found selfish Maxx. I have not managed to see the beauty of their relationship, as Aubrey said is very destructive. But I love this kind of story, but he missed something that I adhere to it.
This is a very personal point of view that I give here, because I think it is a book that will appeal to a lot of people. By cons, make sure you have a strong stomach!
