And in time the fortieth anniversary Also the record company EMI sees called into action, a "40th Anniversary Edition" to throw this album on the market - what in principle there is nothing wrong, only the implementation is somewhat ambiguous and undercooked.
After lavish, super expensive "Station To Station" -Deluxe box two years ago (where a lot of stuff was inside that you do not necessarily need) to EMI decided at "Ziggy Stardust" this time for the contrarian way free after Currency: less is more - which I personally, however, is at an album of this caliber too little.
What does this new edition?
* CD Edition: 11 original tracks, Remastered 2012
* Limited Vinyl / DVD Edition: 11 original tracks, Remastered 2012 180 gram vinyl
plus DVD Audio: 11 original tracks, Remastered 2012/11 Original Tracks, Remastered 2003 + 4 bonus tracks:
"Moonage Daydream" (instrumental), "The Supermen", "Velvet Goldmine," "Sweet Head".
This "Ziggy Stardust" was already quite often and-released again in a variety of versions;
For better clarity, here the most important releases:
1972: RCA, First Release, LP, contains 11 original tracks

1997: EMI, EMI-100 Edition, LP, 11 original tracks, 180 gram vinyl
1999 EMI, Remastered Edition 1999 CD, 11 original tracks, NO bonus tracks, slideshows, BowieNet-Link, 16-page booklet
2002: EMI, 30th Anniversary Edition, Remastered 2002 2CD + hardcover 36-page booklet,
CD 1: 11 Original Tracks
CD 2: 12 Bonus Tracks:
"Moonage Daydream" (Arnold Corns Version), "Hang On To Yourself" (Arnold Corns Version), "Lady Stardust" (Demo), "Ziggy Stardust" (Demo)
"John, I'm Only Dancing", "Velvet Goldmine", "Holy Holy", "Amsterdam", "The Supermen", "Round And Round", "Sweet Head (Take 4)",
"Moonage Daydream" (New Mix)
So seen in total and compared to the above, preceded previous releases, this new edition already seems skimpy. Interesting perhaps for newcomers and audiophile "assessed" fans because of the 5.1 mix. From the price-performance ratio ok though - I personally am waiting for 2022 and its inevitable affiliated publication of the "50th Anniversary Edition" of "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars".
