This novel is very hard and very strong. It talks of Guatemala and its violence but also people struggling for things to change. It also speaks of Americans (but favored Europeans could be similarly evoked) and their right not to want to know what happens outside their borders even when it comes to having a child at all costs, there including by making it from abroad. Patrick Bard tells a difficult reality talent and field knowledge that nobody can deny. This is an important book on the world today. It's a book to read. Absolutely.
