It's not like that Moonspell in the past no good albums were published - from the quality of "Extinct" I'm still pleasantly surprised. After the Portuguese have sometimes brought to their last works the stick out of the bag and squinted toward Black and Death Metal, turn now back up a gear. Although there are here and there still technically hardness breakouts, but usually governed melodic and atmospheric dark metal with gothic set pieces. The choruses ignite immediately, and ever let Moonspell instrumental burn anything. There is also a really convincing vocal performance by Fernando Ribeiro. Some songs have a slightly oriental sounding impact, and the band manages to kitsch and cheesiness to bypass widely without the catchiness suffers. I would even say cautiously that "Extinct" perhaps that's so far best album of Moonspell. Chapeau!
