One of the qualities of this recording, which demonstrates its maturity and understanding of the work lies in the taste and refinement, without excess or pedantry, put to the service times *; the addition of color, dynamics and articulations which Bach was expected from the musician.
Jalbert confirmed its position at the forefront of the most gifted Quebec and North American pianists of his generation with the recording of this jewel.
* Most of the variations is divided into two parts, each of which includes a cover or repetition. Ignored by some (Wanda Landowska, Wilhelm Kempf, Gould), the times with ornamentation are now considered integral parts, and forced, the keyboard pieces by Bach (especially Goldberg). At the initial neglect, followed a period of exploration a bit excessive (Vladimir Feltsman, Shchepkin Sergei and Yuri Takahashi example). We are witnessing a swing of the pendulum toward the middle, and I am inclined to argue that David Jalbert is a leading representative of what is meant by that.
