A matter of perspective.

12 Megapixel
Depending on the nature of photography and the destination media 12MP are possibly not competitive. (As my wedding photos are only 12MP ...? :-()
Landscape and macro photography, portraits types (not passport photographs) with fine details can suffer.
In particular, in these recordings viewers expect micro details.
For my special applications "videos in the dark" However, this is no problem.
For photos I have the 5D MKIII (when I as the images Downsample to 12 MP can I also use ISO 6400 ;-)).

The resolution of modern professional lenses for miniature cameras (35mm) is about 30 MP.

Lenses
The one thing about the camera is the lens ... and because it looks at Sony unfortunately bad.

Less obvious:
4K video or not?
The announcement by Sony recorder is now 4.2015 still unavailable.
There is only one alternative product, the price is 2000 euros.
The device is only for professional workflow available (be current, SSD, wiring required).
And: Sony HDMI-out-signal is an "8-bit 4: 2: 2" is not "10-Bit 4: 2: 2" (eg, GH4)
Sony thus disqualified as 4k enthusiast camera (254 gray levels are not enough).

AF performance comparatively mixed
AF performance is not always contemporary in difficult situation, but I am concerned less.
I measure usually the location manually and record / select me the focus range or
upload it to the focus limiter / focus-markers of the follow focus.

- Associated with any dual-slot recording (backup) possible
- Comparatively expensive cards Class 10 Class 10 64Gb 2x 128Gb instead.

Conclusion:
The A7s is a tool that allows it in particular in (extremely) difficult exposure situations
to reduce noise over other available system cameras in some cases significantly.

The A7s allows it (with additional hardware) to create 4K recordings. (About 2500 euros!)
Just 4K shots, the camera is very good, but the additional hardware always makes a Rig
or skillful helpers / cable man required.
The Sony for December 2014 announced Recorder 4.2015 is still unavailable.

Canon users can by using an adapter (Metabone) part of the existing equipment (lenses, converters, filters)
use with Sony-Bodies.

For me not an allrounder but a useful supplement that supports my work in those situations,
which had to be overcome not with my previous equipment or only with significant compromises.

Always remember: A camera is a tool. There are hammers and grinders ...
if I want to pursue a nail I do not use grinding machine
and if I want to polish my car, I take a hammer.
