.5: The Gray Chapter (Deluxe Edition in digipack + 2 Bonus Tracks) (Audio CD)

Customer Review

As I write this review I hear the album just for the 5th or 6th time, so still relatively fresh. It's not really my thing to write reviews, but since this is me and is a very emotional relationship with Slipknot, I lay here goes:

Expectations that I had on the album before publication:
In short: Almost none. After the departure of Joey Jordison I have heard me say Slipknot died for me. I've been using a lot of Stone Sour (which I strongly took up "Come Whatever May", which I got spanked for "Audio Secrecy" out of sight) expected. Certainly nothing actually bad but nothing that has to do with real Slipknot. I bought the disk (s) as a die-hard fan anyway, with an uneasy feeling. I should not be disappointed.

First Impression:
As with some pre-reviewers the spark is not jumped 100%. OK added the intro of Sarcastrophy I had a bit of goose bumps, allowed bewildered and uncomprehending eyes of my friend who was sitting beside me in the car reap. Deliberately I have not written a disappointing review, but only heard the disc a few times. (Lack of time less than I would like) Even "All Hope Is Gone" has developed through listening to a stunner by 5-10 times. Certainly not the brute elemental force, yet true quality. Already at the beginning of this disk was clear that nothing came out at softes. As a drummer myself, however, the staying away Joeys is immediately noticed, more on that later.

The inner values:

After repeated listening is for me one thing is: Slipknot has opened a new chapter. I would never have thought it possible, but Joey and Paul (RIP) have the 7 old and 2 new something brought about, that is definitely worthy to bear the name of "Slipknot".

ANY of the songs on the disc has its raison d'etre, which does not mean that everyone is a masterpiece. However, the hit-density on this album is damn high. The face-Tret factor finally toward Iowa. Sound quality bombastic. Fast, hard, directly, in the face but also slow and hard on the jaw. Slipknot god damn it !!! I personally wonder whether all these aggressions are really only be explained by Paul's death. This album is "controlled violence" (quote Chris Fehn on one of their DVDs). New with old, brutality with melody (almost dosed perfectly - not too much) .. oh what can I say, Slipknot.

Downer:
I am absolutely convinced that the album with Mr. Jordison would have been just a tad bit better. I personally hear sher clear that the finesse is missing on the drums. Do not get me wrong: The man on the drums does a very good job, but it is not absolutely outstanding, unmistakable job as Mr. Jordison as absolute exception.

Buy?
When Slipknot fan: anyway and promised that there will be no disappointment.
As a metal fan: anyway, to Slipknot you simply can not get to the scene.
Change as fans of something else ;-) Buy and to the dark side!

I hope that moves one or the other to add itself this masterpiece.
