And with the 2010 spin-off "Lara Croft & the Guardian of Light" (= LC & GoL) to the developers of Crystal Dynamics have probably struck a chord with the players, because this proved to be a popular and very successful download bestseller. However, here came the announcement and the release of a sequel as unexpected as quickly, namely anticipated within the second half of 2014 had thus probably very few.
Contrary to the alleged urgency is "Lara Croft & the Temple of Osiris" (= LC & ToO) not unloving dahingeklatsch. Everyone, the LC & GoL promised may / may / should safely access, because of the basic game mechanics, optics to the extent it has no less than its direct predecessor. If that's enough - please! All other interested parties was but said - and I hate to narrower your anticipation -:
The fact you should be aware that there has hardly or no significant changes.
Story? At least as insignificant / superfluous as the "Guardian of Light" and with short sentences summarized:
Egyptian storm god Seth is freed. Very stupid mistake. Gloom and doom. Who the heck turn back now? Of course, our adventuress with the thick Mo ... * cough * ... creak. ;)
A paper-thin as formulaic plot, but when that did not bother in the first spin-off, it will not do in this case. So, just ignore, fast forward all cutscenes and focus on's actual gameplay.
The remaining resistant gameplay of its predecessor is internalized in seconds, connoisseurs can therefore start immediately. As usual a lot of running around, Gehopse, banging and Geknobel in considerable isometric perspective, between the pockets with clunkers stuffs you feel full, diverse weapons to play free or improved through upgrades or artifacts his passive skills. The latter brings in the end no special advantages, even with consistent non-use Graphics Smoothing the magical rigmarole can be LC & ToO by playing without any problems.
Were it not for Egypt as the new venue, an on now 4 players inflated co-op mode, some graphic-technical improvements and the right useful Staff of Osiris, then could Laras second topdown offshoot smooth than later go through twin of 4 year old debut, but although it retains many of its strengths, it weakens in direct comparison.
Reasons?
- Instead of struggling through very varied, great levels you have to come here never feel so right from the spot. It moves on a single card, on which around although numerous but relatively small tombs caves / distributed. The visual variety suffers.
- A difficulty which does not deserve its name. Puzzles, boss battles, time-critical sections of game - all far below the level of LC & Gol (contrast this offered some pretty tricky places).
- A listless thoroughly localization. Woman Tschirner may actually much better, see or hear in the TR-reboot. Why was it ?! Boredom? For smaller Gage check? Or Nora had just a bad day?
Otherwise the game does not go wrong. The control misses, the sound convincing and the TR-Atmo true.
Conclusion:
Who requires nothing more than what already LC & GoL had to play, which can count on a "decent sequel with Satisfaction Guarantee". Also the rest I would recommend LC & ToO well, the lack of fresh ideas but never remains unnoticed. Exceptionally HERE "more" would be really more, so have been a visible increase.
