the main interest of the novel is the story structure entirely surprising; one is confronted with a series of PivotTables in which character development functions both in the mode of linear progression and walking backwards to a final revelation that is both the most touching drama and the conclusion of a very chilling cynicism; one of the best novels of Banks who then lost in abstractions without interest. A must read and preferably in English
