Give My Love to London (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Marianne Faithfull since the beginning of her career gathers interesting artists around, who are ultimately responsible for how their albums sound. In this millennium that were especially Beck ("Kissin Time") and PJ Harvey ("Before the Poison") before was covered across the musical landscape with "Easy Come, Easy Go". "Horses and High Heels" was then a more homogenous album that me despite some great songs ("Why did we have to part," "The Old House") was a bit too boring.

The first single from this album, "Sparrows will sing" has the same first bit me off. Very schrammelig, rocking sound that at first glance. In this varied and yet cohesive album in itself, the song adds but wonderful. It follows the small Jig "Give my love to London," Faithfull cheerful homage to London. On "True Lies" you hear an incredibly energetic singer before being folky acoustic with "Love more or less". Quiet it is retained even when the written by Nick Cave "Late Victorian Holocaust". An absolute highlight is the lyrics written by Faithfull "Mother Wolf", in which one might almost think the chorus already here somebody wanted to compose a hit. But it is above all the text that characterizes this song and makes it one of their best!
Only "Going Home" - so interesting I also think it's that Faithfull Covert no classic, but instead a song by Leonard Cohen 2012er album "Old Ideas" selects - is textually very tied to Cohen, musically it was but it put more touching , with Brian Eno in the background choir.

"Give my love to London" is perhaps Marianne Faithfull best album of the new millennium, it is not overloaded, it does not take itself too seriously, I can not find any serious criticisms!
