The work of Jean Lopez manages to beautifully combine erudition (which is that of the author on the 2nd World War) and readability for a wide audience. The illustration is of high quality and very often seems new: the reader does not feel for the 100th time seeing the same images. A real iconographic research was conducted and the quality of reproduction of documents is very good. The chronological procedure almost implied by the title, is also proving an exposure tool quite adequate. Congratulations to the author and his publisher for this fine achievement.
