Finally a book that gives us detail on the history of the early Middle Ages: bravo !! However, it is unfortunate that abruptly ends with Charles V, without much detail elsewhere. A strong sense of unfinished business, nothing about the fate of the Holy Roman Empire. Disappointing in the end, I enjoyed however the detail of the treated periods. The plan is not always easy to follow, and gives an impression 'messy' for the neophyte. This book seems to speak to the reader who already has knowledge of the subject. But overall it met my expectations.
