This fan is unlike most other. Here the air is swirled through the special design of the grid so that the moving air remains in a sheet and not scattered in all directions to. This has the consequence that even at a distance of several meters of the draft is still palpable among others.
For a fan 2 criteria are particularly important to me: The power in the form of an ordinary air movement and volume. On the other reviews of the various fans can be seen that it is with most other buyers as well. In this respect, I do not understand why on the review portal "ventilator.org" the volume is almost not considered.
Power:
In the first moment after the intervention I had thought the fan would be rather weak. When I then walked away, I changed my mind. Through the above-mentioned special swirling technique the movement of air is concentrated and is - still present after several meters - in almost equal measure. In "normal" fans the movement of air is more directly in front of the unit, 3 meters but barely noticeable. Even at the lowest level you can tell they are still at a distance of 6 meters on bare skin. Thus, since one can give a sense many meters the concentrated airflow, it is possible to achieve certain desired air movements in the room with precise alignment of the fan. The adjustability is optimal. The 3 power levels can vary significantly.
Sound / volume:
The device developed 2 types of noise in subjective perception. First there is the usual noise of the propeller. No unpleasant sound, which is also in the 3rd stage is not too loud. These then joined by a kind of hum that you know well, if one has been on an airfield before. Propeller Propeller is flat. However, this noise is not unpleasant, but rather more disturbing than the noise. In the 3rd stage, it is clearly audible, even in several meters away. In step 2, it will be much quieter, in stage 1, it is no longer audible, unless you put your ear directly to the device. But the hum comes not from the engine, but is apparently also a Luftverwirbelungseffekt. The relatively small size of the propeller of course requires a higher speed than that of larger sized devices with the same power. Considering this need, then the noise of Vornado is still relatively low.
In addition now gets even a special positive side effect in the subjective noise perception. With the swirling technique already described ensures that you can move the unit several meters further away, in order not to get the desired air flow. This, of course you can hear the noise considerably less.
I measured with a (not calibrated) device noise in 1,5 meters:
Level 1: 30 - 35 dB; Stage 2: 40-45 dB; Level 3: 50-55 dB.
If you want to sleep when the fan, so this is certainly possible, if one selects the level 1. If you set the device still at a distance of 3 meters on, you hear hardly anything. If one is not quite as sensitive, which is also still on stage. 2
Conclusion:
A high-quality device with special beneficial properties, both in terms of performance, variability, as well as the noise.
