Everything revolves around the three laws of robotics:
1- A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey orders given to it by a human being, except where such orders would conflict with the first law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
These laws are vague enough to allow all the developments and risks of skidding. What will expose Susan Calvin, robopsychologist throughout his life to improve the robots and moving from a robot to a robot nurse president.
Asimov was among the first (in any case, it is the best known), to present the robots to what they should be: useful tools to man (and not vile creatures destined to turn against their creator), of course tools increasingly sophisticated.
This news, of a somewhat quaint, read with great ease and pleasure. It is an indispensable introduction to fully understand the work "robotic" the good doctor Asimov.
