Commedia misfire is not strictly speaking a police novel even if it is stamped as such. Point of policemen on the horizon but many mobsters of all stripes and small-time crooks. Antoine desperately trying to forget his Italian roots and his suburban childhood, but a series of events brings him back to his past. A meeting, a suspicious death and some official papers until the lead on the land of his ancestors and return to its origins. This story - very well built and very imaginative - mixes religion, Mafia and return to the roots. We find a little black style and quirky humor that are the hallmark of the author. It is easily carried away by the plot and Tonino Benacquista his narrative mastery enough to surprise the reader to the end. The descriptions of Italian manners are probably a little caricatured and situations are incredible but it is voluntary and done with tenderness and humor. A good read, a thriller while lightness.
