A welcome return of Survival Horror

After Resident Evil has passed into oblivion (what a pity) and there has been no really creepy Silent Hill title also for a long time, I am delighted with this surprisingly successful launch titles the WiiU.

ZombiU you have to, in principle, as a result of a love triangle between Metroid Prime, the first couple of Resident Evil and Silent Hill episodes imagine II. From Metroid the idea comes with the backtracking, the capability already happening places means acquired during the game instruments to explore deeper. From the Resident Evil zombies are coming and from Silent Hill II is the effective use of light and dark, noise and silence.

The game is full of good ideas, but as a typical launch titles, it has of course also a few weaknesses. Among the strengths is the atmosphere, which nowadays so seldom achieved in video games creepy factor and the interesting use of WiiU gamepads.

Weaknesses: the history and dynamics of the player progress are not properly thought out and coordinated with each other: an avatar who is bitten, becomes a zombie and is played with a new avatar on. You have to bring back his old equipment from his undead former I then Dark-Souls-moderate. It seems a bit strange when the Prepper the new Avatar over the walkie-talkie responds to things that the / the New logically do not know or can know.

The combat system is on the one hand a little unimaginative (we kloppt mainly with a cricket bat on the Zombies), but on the other hand, it is also good that one is forced to flee, the same if several of them come to a. This contributes greatly in the Horror!

Finally: it is as clearly not enough skins. It can be seen very quickly faces and clothes again ('I told you not only just smashed the skull?'), Because the limited number of skins result in too early recycling and the player therefore reminds the 'goodbye' to the last meeting ,

Despite all these little shortcomings ZombiU is a recommended title, especially for people who are looking after the conversion of Resident Evil of a Survival horror to a third person action-mark for a real horror game.
