He had watched acrualité in the event that he would go before his easel, with instructions to remove all subjectivity, all fabrication and moral judgment. When he learned in the press murder of Clutter family, he said, well, why not the story of a crime? And the next day he was at the scene. That at least is his account later ... As it stands, this text presents a slice of life kind of society the Midwest in the mid fifties, with a truth and a striking force . This novel eéussit by very simple and economical means to communicate the horror of the crime, his feeling of absurdity, and opens to substantive discussions on the justice of men. A truly unique book, and, I might add, really helpful.
