Promise Me Tonight: A Weston Novel (Paperback)

Customer Review

... Was hard to see why for me. Neither is the plot of the novel particularly original, nor the characters (throughout) are adorable or understand their motives for action.

The plot is actually rendered aptly Amazon. In a nutshell, it is mixed with some kind of "marriage of convenience" plot a "in love with her big brothers best friend". The former I find wonderful, the latter I usually shun like the plague. Unfortunately, this very progress of the action was to be found in the reviews and recommendations not right, otherwise I probably would have restrained myself when purchasing.

Isabel "Izzi" Weston has always loved James. Even as a child it was clear that he is the man she wants to marry. This does not change even when she is grown up and blossomed -äh- to a conspicuous beauty.
James has a tragic family background. Both parents are no longer alive and his guardian uncle, he does not experience love. The 'obsolete' he (so to speak) with its neighbors, the Westons, and befriends especially the eldest son. So much for the premise of the story.
The plot is actually only really in transition as Izzi has her debut. As James has promised her as a 14-year-old to dance with her on her debut ball, James comes after several years of absence to Izzis ball to keep the promise. Once down below the stairs and so to speak, their 'presence' has, James is suddenly overwhelmed by Izzis beauty and observed her passionately. One could also say that he is now keen on it. Then begins the usual back and forth from they want to, but it's not fair (added James' intent to fall in love never know what the thing verkompliziert- not particularly original character as motivation) and it ends with a marriage, the basis of a Kompromomitierung has become necessary. Here begins the second part of the novel quasi where Izzi and James speak tackle their problems and find common ground.

By authors such as Julia Quinn, Lisa Kleypas, Teresa Medeiros and Eloisa James this debut was highly praised and recommended. Julia Quinn even writes on her homepage, she was honored by the comparison with their 'Bridgerton series'. Well, in their place, I would not be quite so happy about it. The novel does not come in the least to "The Duke and I" (the Auftrakt the Bridgertons) ran and none of the characters is as adorable as the Bridgertons and their partner / inside. Similarly, the novel is -apart from the admittedly sometimes quite amusing correspondence Izzis which is quoted at the beginning of each chapter - not particularly witty or cheerful, which is indeed Quinn's trademark.

In summary, there are several elements that make this novel a quite a disappointment. Since all would advance the plot, which some have more stringent for my taste may be, and perhaps also less would have been more. At the beginning of comedy, drama and then somewhere even a little self-discovery and growing up the hero / inside were just too much and therefore in the fullness unconvincing.

Then the characters.
Izzy is mainly characterized by their perseverance in the face James. She loves him and wants him no matter what he says. You could say it on tricking pretty momentous way to get him by his explicit wish, not to get closer to her, resists and in turn exploits a weakness. Then it behaves like a silly and wayward sheep, and met his admittedly also abominable behavior, defiance and (supply) silence.

James is initially quite endearing, albeit a little boring and without right depth. Unfortunately, the author has decided that for the first time he really sees Izzy when she as a thriving beauty has her social debut. Apparently gives her top notch looks already to knock him out of the socks and put his loins in mood (sorry, silly formulation, but something like it actually runs). Probably the author wanted him create a kind of "tortured hero", but it remains stuck on the Keeps. Really, we get a lot of insight not in James' inner life and that a grown man almost defiantly decided by the loss of both parents, never to love again (loss fears! Uh-oh!) Is pretty lame (trite not to say). But Izzy he can not resist and is forced to marry her (which he never wanted to. Nobody.). At this point the story his motivation to act is really strange and frankly pretty thin. Clear reasons for his subsequent absence will be delivered, but is not that abundant stupid? And somehow not quite consistent?

There was quite a lot in this novel single action aspects that I did not like because they were unconvincing and hackneyed partly, but also approaches the part and were just too many. The characters I found in sections even unbearable, which I unfortunately Izzy has fallen less than James. Overall, the novel was what I regard as worth a recommendation and I do not think I want to see the continuation volumes. Nevertheless, I want to give the novel 3 stars because it is a) is a debut novel and b) some aspects found in the novel, which I subjectively finde- terribly in romances others see the safe otherwise.

Nevertheless, I do not consider the book for a blast. What well-known love novelists, as quoted above have seen in him is beyond me.
