Now I will have to write a review on this disc. I have not bought the album here on Amazon but have found it in my record collection inherited. I am working for some time with the progressive music of the 70s and "working" me so slowly through the available bands and albums that were then on the market and discover again and again extremely interesting and captivating works. Relayer is undoubtedly so. Unfortunately, today is simply nothing like it more on the market. Most attempts to revive the ProgRocks -also by the then influential bands - fail, even if there are occasional good ports unknown artist. Now I have made up my mind this record and I knew roughly what will happen to me, because I have a few attempts already used in "Close to the Edge" until my beauty had developed this plate. For me personally, "the Green" by the way the absolute No.1 album in terms of prog rock -if not of music history. Catchier pieces a la "Genesis" I did not expect and do not expect too. So angeschmissen turntable mounted tonearm in position and headphones and laid on the bed (to me Comments my dubstepliebenden students / roommates about my to avoid "weird" music that make today about Tarkus, Foxtrot, Fragile and co. Funny ;-) ) Already in the first few seconds you can hear: This is the typical sound Yes. Timeless, slightly strange, cool, especially fascinating. Especially the intro of "Gates of Delirium" is similar to a certain extent that of CTTE, though less chaotic. The whole runs then in a typical Yes Progsong and culminates in an entire fireworks battery of extremely varied but still subtly linked musical ideas which can be hardly rotated. When one is focused on the individual instruments undoubtedly notice: The boys are true masters of their craft. Compositionally and technically on an incredibly high level. And all this just turn without digital helpers and computer botched. Pure perfection! The other two pieces fit perfectly fit into the overall business and remain one thing: varied and interesting. To my surprise, I was able to hear relayer in one go and then did not know where my head was. Then I had to collect my thoughts, because this is so energetic and at the same time creates an extremely dense atmosphere first. It's amazing how you could build such a vivid sound picture with the then available (analog) technology.
Conclusion: I think this album is particularly suitable for people who increasingly also be interested in the technical / musical side of music. For if the album comes across: You probably wanted to exhaust the limits of what is possible. This makes the album quite difficult to generate but it remains entertaining. Fortunately, we have omitted lengthy passages. The energy that goes into Relayer drives a formally by listening the album. But there is absolutely nothing for the way. One should simply engage in this album and soak up. I can understand people well, which this album is too difficult. The high complexity makes this album actually very sterile. Five star and a strong buy recommendation there yet because relayer is just impressive!
