The fact is that the killer is over the years succeeded in a list genius pieces, in particular (to listen to my favorite)
- Mr. Brightside and All These Things That I've Done by Hot Fuss
- When You Were Young and Read My Mind by Sam's Town
- Human and Dustland Fairytale Days & Age
On every album, there were also a lot of songs that have not gone really depend.
What now distinguishes Battle Born from the old albums?
I agree to the many voices who say that there are a lot of songs on Battle Born, where you really wonder "What is this now? What have they thinking?" - To which one (I) really does not get access even at the 6th or 7th hearing. And that's me with anything else Killers album nearly gone as strongly on Battle Born. I am thinking
- "A Matter of Time"
- "Deadlines and Commitments"
- "The Rising Tide"
- "Heart Of A Girl"
- And the two bonus tracks, "Carry Me Home" and "Prizefighter"
All pieces that somehow passionless come across as filler.
"Be Still" is striking at least as certain quieter counterpoint, but is ultimately no more than a maximum average ballad.
"Battle Born" as the last regular pieces then wakes as the title-giving degree-piece again the hope for a real firecracker in the end, but this expectation can not meet, unfortunately. It turns out, despite bombastic introduction as oddly indecisive style mix with no real direction.
But that still remain 5 Songs that stand out:
- "Flesh and Bone" is the latest in the 2nd hearing his strength. It's definitely very, catchy and well and does not need to hide from the "old" Killers pieces
- The same goes for "Miss Atomic Bomb" - in my opinion the best song of the album, and definitely audible for "Killers of earlier" purists
- Even "Runaways" is a good song, which has everything you need for the Killers.
For me (which I certainly have a streak of pop and also with Days & Age had no problems) are also with only minor degradation in "The Way It Was" and "Here With Me" absolutely ok and worth listening to - good and catchy pop.
And so the album actually for me, what former Killers albums had already:
- A handful of good pieces that I will in the future still frequently hear
- And a lot of filler which is not really outstanding halt.
In this respect, my expectations were actually met, so I am not disappointed. The album brings 3-5 songs that I'm going to take my "Best Of Killers" - that's ok for me, no more and no less.
