You should be aware before deciding for this smartphone to be (as with any Android phone) that it is extensible. This is blessing and a curse: one wants to pick up a phone out of the box that has everything on board, the other wants to customize it the way he needs it. The costs associated with the Apps / expandability options there were, who appealed to me, so I have never regretted the purchase.
One should be aware of when deciding on an Android smartphone, moreover, that Google is behind the development of Android. I throw Google also does not like to receive information afterward - that's why I have a Gmail account, which I've used only once: For the activation of my smartphone. The Market also here on, everything else in mail traffic is third account instead, you also can use without problems with the Milestone runs.
After these remarks in advance I want to turn now to my experience with the Milestone.
I have therefore started in 2009 with the operating system Android 2.0, which was liquid at me. After intensive examination of Internet reviews, the AndroidMarket, app reviews and tests etc. I assembled some apps which have optimized my existing good amount of use. I use the phone to make phone calls (about 10 minutes a day), SMSs (about 50 per day), Internet browsing (not every day, about 1 hour / week) and listening to music (about 45 minutes a day). Moreover wakes me from my Milestone and use it occasionally as a navigation device (eats the battery), a stopwatch / timer, and to play. I seltenst to never use the business functions (Email, Quickoffice). My Milestone is a fun Phone! :-)
To my main Apps heard one that allows me to use the settings from the screen brightness on clay, on / off of WiFi, GPS and other similar consumers and system settings at a glance / in one click. Here I first set down the screen brightness and significantly WiFi, GPS, etc. off. These consumers then I turn to when I want it. That said, I'm not continuously online with my Milestone. This is my way to use, others will look different.
These steps alone I have a battery life of several days (3-4) achieved with the above-described use. By using the above mentioned radio ions I am now almost completely satisfied. In the past I was not always.
There was meanwhile an update from Motorola on Android 2.1, which I have also drawn me. This also I have experienced the Weckerbug. Even turning off the display when introduce to your ear to make phone calls was very prone to errors, which led to incorrect operation (by the ear). During this time I was very unhappy with the functionality - and rightly so. However, it took (in my case, have the automatic check for updates and follow the rather off the Internet when there is something new), only about two weeks, then came an improvement from Motorola that resolved both criticisms.
This means that the Weckerbug from which much could be read here is dispelled! My Milestone wakes me up on time! And if I have the ear, then the display is black and non-sensitive, so you can privacy.
The update also a boilerplate feature was added when writing with the hardware keyboard (SMS, Email, etc.), which I perceived as a relief especially for the special characters / umlauts.
Summarized briefly the most important for me advantages and disadvantages of smartphones:
Pro:
- Giant screen, razor sharp. With an adjusted brightness (me rich 10%!) And not too much battery eater
- Android operating system, adjust expandable and individual apps (Android Firmware 2.1 Update1)
- Lush sufficient by individual setting of battery life
- GPS installed = navigation option (paid app, replaces a Navi both for the car and on foot)
- Ordinary camera with camera light (can be used per app as a flashlight)
- Hardware keyboard makes my writing SMS and Email
- Unlimited SMS storage (individual setting, preset limits the number of stored SMS), SMS messages will be displayed in "Threads" / conversations with the respective number, ie SMS and corresponding responses from a specific phone number to be displayed continuously among themselves
- Internet-enabled, but can also be turned off to conserve battery power
- Wi-Fi-enabled, ie here with free internet browsing
- LED on the surface shows flashing green when the display lock on, if I have received a text message or email, without the display lights for (saves battery)
- (Apps that I like, I'll get out of here, because the Milestone first times without coming)
Contraindications:
- The Return of the hardware keyboard is situated right under the delete button. Several times it seemed therefore that I have sent by mistake, although I wanted to delete. Since the latest update this is the SMS program is no longer possible to enter only adds a new paragraph, instead of the SMS to send. When browsing occurs yet before now and then.
- The proposed texts for SMS / Email, etc. not learn, neither completely new words after repeated use are transferred to the proposal dictionary, still sliding down the proposal at the first point of the selection list, which is most often chosen by me. After all accesses to the dictionary to my address book, turn up so that name in the proposal list.
- The above-mentioned LED red flashing warns of low battery power. Then, when Low battery an SMS or email is received, this is indicated by the LED is not visible (my suggestion would alternately green and red, but is not the case). When I nachsehe by activating the display if a message has been received, this weakens the battery additionally.
As you can see, it is here to specific criticisms in specific situations. Do not worry, in my case for a devaluation of the product because they are not serious enough for a devaluation for me. Rather, it would be desired to the programmer's next update.
On my way to use this smartphone is a 95% suitable product for me. For this purpose therefore of me a strong buy recommendation. Power business users might have other claims, which I can give no advice / experience value here unfortunately.
Thank you for your attention!
