What a joy to find Emmanuel Waresquiel after his memorable biography of Talleyrand. Although her character seems a priori less consubstantial the lame devil, he manages the feat of making the man who was tying the conventional regicide and cynical gunner Bellecour. So at the end, it was with a heavy heart to leave the former minister mighty Napoleon in his exile Trieste. Yet De Waresquiel not we done with no maneuver, no compromise, no cheap shot (and there were). But as nothing is simple (especially in these troubled times of all), captured with clarity (because De Waresquiel knows how to combine erudition and precision) the twists and turns of a more complex character than his black legend would suggest . Again, a masterful book!
