Silent Cries & Mighty Echoes (CD)

Customer Review

That was over 32 years that I had not listened to this album. In those ancient times, in 1982, a hippie friend lent me the vinyl, so I record it on a cassette chrome Agfa to listen to a player who weighed 1.2 kg and consumed 4 batteries 1.5 volts every 2 hours.

To confess everything, Eloy was not much known to the public at the time than it is now, in France only a few thousand insider reveled works of the German group. The gradual early stage 80 in France was squatted by Genesis, Marillion with Fish on vocals and Saga then at its zenith. They were the only prog rock bands able to fill to overflowing concert halls - often horrible halls actually trade fair - in the provinces. I'm not talking about Barclay James Harvest, which also filled rooms, but that is the progressive rock what is leatherette leather (P. Manoeuvre).

All this to say that if Eloy has not scored that time, neither the history of Rock in general, is that it lacks a little something to make his universal music. So good, it is due to little, the voice and the German accent of singer does not necessarily serve the songs, it lacks a true guitar heroe to boost the songs, the production is a little short of that of sizes of time. But for me the major concern is that we hear too the various influences of the band (Pink Floyd, Tangerine Dream etc.) to speak of an "original" group. Eloy is a wagon which follows the movement a locomotive which creates a kind. The songs are sincere, but it lacks that little extra something that would put them at a Genesis or Pink Floyd. While listening to this album is pleasant, it might still take a few years before I furnish it in my CD player.
