It's not so bad, even the already published tracks (LIGHTS, of the webpage and the BARRICADES Single) clearly show the way on. While LIGHTS is a very atmospheric track that slowly counter stretches his Climax, BARRICADE is the typical Interpol Single. Driven by a rhythm section that sets the mood in typical fashion to then be further supported by the wonderful guitars. However, the track appears in fact very rough despite its melody and therefore strongly reminiscent of the debut.
Where is the never belonged? It is very gently woven into the fragile Interpol universe. ALWAYS malaise strongly supported by the piano, Paul Banks sings in a heat that was previously included rare. Built Likewise TRY IT ON, though, this song by the late einsetztenden guitars and the (also new) driven electronic gadgetry to an explosion, wonderfully. We also find another gentle and clever innovations, Paul Banks in falsetto (the opener SUCCESS), Spanish texts, Salsa Elements (Attention, dear fan, the final track THE undoing, not terrify ;-), trumpets. But as I said, everything woven gently and very wise in the typical sound Interpol.
And there en masse. The pumping, the songs driving bass, the typical riffs by Daniel Kessler, the sonorous voice of Paul Banks, which together create a worn dark atmosphere, just somewhere meets the aspirations and expectations of the fans between Joy Division and shoegazing. Best examples are in addition to the single BARRICADE even SUMMER WELL, which would fit with its clear melodies on the first two albums, or ALL THE WAYS that acts like a black hole, in which all Interpol blend ingredients to the handset for always take. Like a slowly gathering storm - with Banks like a dream repeating "I know the way you want to make it up, make it up for me" - the mood is always threatening, guitars screws High and organs give the whole more recent paint ... to one of the finest dark Interpol to be moments.
A class of its own, not a fan will be disappointed by the new, old Interpol.
