The TP-Link WA-801N provides an astonishing amount, especially when you consider the very reasonable price. The transmitting and receiving characteristics are good in my surroundings, but still topped by the flexible application possibilities. The function, the unit with "Power Over Ethernet" (PoE) to operate, ie to supply via the network cable with power, is unique in this price range. That it is TP-Link is a non-standard compliant PoE implementation acts (Passive PoE, 802.3af PoE as opposed to how it support all PoE-enabled switches) is not particularly relevant, since a corresponding adapter (PoE Injector ) is included. This makes it possible, the AP to place the laying of a single cable (Ethernet) and to places in the house where there is no electricity. Also rather for professionals, and nowhere to have different bar in its price class, the function, the Ethernet packets, depending on the SSID (Multi-SSID) V (irtual) LAN is to enrich information and pass it on to a switch that something with VLANs can begin. So you can control when necessary (and appropriate switch equipment) access to individual components in the network depending on the used WLAN highly differentiated. In guest network can be allowed with this method along with the expected use of Internet access, for example, the use of the printer or other network devices for the guest (or the little children). This already points towards "professional class". This all works without problems and especially without much configuration effort. The mechanical design is, let's say, the price is reasonable. The Configuration menu structure is clear and simple, help texts, however, are written in really bad English. The safety in the home network is not exactly conducive to that one "active" can not log out, but always logged on the computer stays where you originally logged in to the AP - until you log in on another computer. Conversely, you can Not from a computer to a different network segment (included with other network address) in the AP. Actually, a good thing, but unfortunately, this behavior can also not aware off - by and for people who need it. Conclusion: For the money, there's nothing comparable with other manufacturers. Even (semi-) professional networkers - not really the target audience of the device / manufacturer - can be used effectively, the device due to its flexible operating modes, PoE and VLAN capabilities. Secure five stars.
