So could be in one sentence CAMELS 78s Output "BREAHLESS" succinctly describe in one sentence.
In order to make it a little more detail: As for the classic progressive rock, so CAMEL have its zenith clearly been exceeded here. With the 7-minute film "Echoes" but they succeed again a real band classics. With regard to the more pop elements of the album ("You Make Me Smile") can be ascertained laudably that CAMEL never drift into banality or Exchangeable but always remain unmistakably CAMEL. Also nice: The Jazz-shares act at no time placed or inappropriate, but are very well integrated into the band sound. All very neat, though no cause for euphoria. The original album was going to get by Just me (rounded) 4 stars.
Now the next edition.
Purchase incentive for many could be the bonus track: "Rainbow's End" in the single version.
After two hearing I can not tell the difference from the album version. With 2:59 minutes, the bonus version is exactly as long as the original. It may be the fact that whatever instrumental passages are different marginal. The bonus track evaluates my opinion, so the album neither up nor down, but is ultimately probably really only of interest to completists.
The 16-page booklet again, I find it very successful. In addition to some band photos there are of Mark Powell a brief outline of the band formation and credit history in general and background information on BREATHLESS reading in particular. A real improvement to previous CD editions so.
For remastering. The positives first: it can be established no blatant distortion of the sound. But once again, as so often in recent years, the (yes desirable) improved transparency in the sound by drastically raising the heights is bought with a price. The CAMEL for typical, warm sound is thus a good deal pushed back far through shrill, aggressive treble. Of course, is always a matter of taste, but I think that's clearly exaggerated. Clear, quieter passages or pieces so much, are now more present. Once there, however, approaching dynamic and dense, it can sometimes to the heights Dauergezischel come (eg the pelvis on "Echoes"). For me, again a verschlimmbesserndes remastering, no progress.
Conclusion:
Original album 4 stars
Bonus Track 3 stars
Booklet 5 stars
Remastering 2 stars
Power in the sum with much benevolence overall 4 stars. ****
