I wanted to know how the author, atheist, felt Jewish. We are built. A hilarious book, very Jewish, tender, humorous and very learned. Curiously, it makes you want to read the Bible and later Jewish writings as the Talmud much maligned by the mother of St. Louis. Amos Oz shows us that we must first be familiar with the writings before criticizing, from its own point of view. The challenge is beautifully observed. Would recommend without moderation, as bedside book or weekend.
