From the beginning of his novel, partly autobiographical based on the author's statements, Fabrice Humbert asked about his violent outbursts, usually contained, or sometimes on his cowardice when he would react to the sight of grossly unfair and it does not. Are we not all in the same boat? But Fabrice Humbert wants to find the root of his behavior. It attempts an explanation in the light of the rest of the story takes us back to its origins. On this occasion we are plunged into the world of the Buchenwald concentration camp Fabrice Humbert had the opportunity to visit with students of a Franco-German school. This is where the author had a revelation. But shhh ... Follows intimately mixed with addictive story, an endless questioning of the author on the violence of the Nazis, their determination to humiliate in every way, and torture at will, their future victims. These executioners are they not people like everyone, who love their wife, their children, who normally live outside their dirty work? So where does their violence? How can they reconcile quiet family life and extermination work. There is something to ask lots of questions. So the quest for Fabrice Humbert, in which he expresses his suffering, his indignation, his revolt against past events that have affected someone important to him. All this on Family History background, probably fictionalized.
The writing of this novel, which lasted four years, had to be a therapy for Fabrice Humbert perceived that surely unspoken around him is a saving episode that must have cost him suffering and at the same time a great relief. I loved this book, a work of well thought out, well-considered, well-structured and well finicky. This is serious work and lengthy that deserves attention, for our greatest pleasure to drive and for teachings it brings us. Thank you and congratulations to Fabrice Humbert.
