For me it is connected as an access point via LAN with a Fritz box 7170 in the basement. WLAN Fritzbox I have disabled due to insufficient coverage to the terrace and in upper floors. Therefore, my experiences relate mainly to the Access Point mode.
As access point of the blue modem port is connected to the LAN of the upstream router. So you have all 4 yellow LAN ports for other devices freely. The wireless range is good and sufficient for my purposes in EFH.
But When operating as an access point The following features are not (without giving the downloadable manual notification thereof) available:
- Guest access (4x SSID): in the Admin interface lacks the "Add" button to add additional SSIDs,
- Bandwidth management (EZQoS)
- Time setting via NTP time server (although set in the surface). Another way of timing does not exist (except perhaps the device to boot at 0:00 clock).
Especially the non-working time setting I find very annoying, because thus a time-controlled switch on / off the WLAN is not possible.
Due to the aforementioned Access Point constraints I can only give 3 stars. Because newer firmware of RT-N12 is perhaps the better choice, even if you do not need 300Mb / s (FW version 3.0 instead of 2.1 in RT-N10). Especially the area Guest access has been extensively reworked in the admin interface of the RT-N12. An update to firmware version 3.0 for the RT-N10 currently unavailable.
In conclusion, a technique tip:
As Access Point, the RT-N10 is the subnet of the upstream router, ie refers default from there via DHCP IP address. To avoid having to determine this IP address is not inconvenient (through the so-called. Device Discovery Utility or by looking up in the router) it is advisable, therefore, be entered in the RT-N10 when using an access point a static IP address that is not in the DHCP Address field is the upstream router. Connected to a Fritzbox offers eg 192.168.1.2 to. Thus, the admin interface is accessible via Web browser always "[...]".
Update 21:08:13: Access Point constraint Time Server downgraded from 4 to 3 stars.
