Unknown Pleasures (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Late, but I have now finally the two JD-albums "Unknown Pleasures" (1979) and "Closer" (1980) bought to them in addition to the Sampler "Substance" and "The Best Of JD" pride of place in my CD -Regal secure.

Since I already knew Joy Division in acquiring this disc, did for me personally to few surprises. The partially get used to sound collages that are always (or almost always) be heard in the background of the songs and thus intensify the atmosphere are, - if you have been listening to - indispensable part while also brand of cult band from Manchester.

What has me nevertheless surprised the whole atmosphere, the "Unknown Pleasures" is holding. A common thread is this mystical, uneasy mood by this Gesamtkunstwerk. Although individual songs - in my opinion - for example to the melting pot "Substance" sometimes easier to hear, but taken as a whole, "Unknown Pleasures" has actually cope much hand called masterpiece.

A pity of course, that the badly battered Ian Curtis his young life so put an abrupt end. Just when you were on the way up, he has unfortunately committed suicide himself. To be sure, the cult and the "mystical something" that surrounds Joy Division still has that significantly strengthened. Nevertheless, it would be but we all have preferred no question of course Mr. Curtis and JD would still writing songs, making albums and giving concerts ...
Actually, it's remarkable what in the short creative period (1977 - 1980) everything was brought to Output. Tragic and admirable at the same time.

In short: "Unknown Pleasures" is clearly a masterpiece, especially atmospheric features the album as a whole when it comes to the listening experience. Actually, you can not go for the purchase of JD-disks so and so wrong. I recommend, therefore - in addition to just the work reviewed - also the second album "Closer" (the notorious "suicide plate") and (necessarily!) "Substance" the many, not published in the official studio albums, including songs.
Oh, NEW ORDER ("Substance 1987"), which existed practically from the entire JD lineup (without Curtis of course) is - if I am already doing - also highly recommended. This double album contains many seemingly familiar sounds and two-and-bred JD tracks on which Ian Curtis's voice (posthumously) can be heard again ...

These are stories of how they can just write the music ... "Unknown Pleasures" opened a new, exciting and (unfortunately) very short chapter, but that as soon not interfere with safety in obscurity and even today - 30 years later - can come up feelings, as only Joy Division can cause it. Who the panel sounds (perhaps several times), will know what I mean ...

Conclusion: A true classic of modern music history! It's never too late for you to discover something new, so you resort to (if they have not yet made the acquaintance of Joy Division) !!
