My highlights? Foremost track 4 - Your Latest Trick. I can hear again and again, and he is great for testing and arrive compare. But every track has its raison d'être. Money for nothing rocks, Brothers in Arms - the cuddly song ever on the disc, Walk of Life - the feel-good song par excellence, know in track 6 the percussions at the beginning and later on like the bass and the guitar at the beginning of The Man's Too Strong is in turn good for conditioning check. Song 8 - One World - is the only thing that was not quite as good like. In a pinch, there are but for the "Skip" - button on the remote control, the one must never operate in this disc else ...
Meanwhile, I have 5 versions of the album:
1. the original "normal" CD - at that time it was absolute reference. Today it sounds comparatively thin and cold. But do not throw away! It is well suited for presentations / compare what you can still rausholen by good mixing / filters!
2. The Remastered CD - much better! Goes much deeper down, is not nearly as cold and relatively more emotional. The remastering of the disc has been good (is unfortunately not always the case ...)
- But be careful - there is a low pressure, which was cast as Remastered Version in recent years on the market that just sounds flat and marshy. No dynamics or emotions. How to get out the right one? Only by listening, I'm afraid. The safest way is to buy the same XRCD2 or SACD - the album is definitely worth it !!!
3. Japan - pressing. Sonically it is close to the Remastered. Perhaps even one iota warmer. However, I have for over 40 - have to lie down and it is not worth it. But, as I said, a little better than the CD.
4. The XRCD2. The version with the most information I would say. It is very clear, you can hear things you do not even glimpsed before. This is the most suitable version for the system check. However, to enjoy it I think is not so good. The guitar, the strings into the foreground, the voices are a bit thin, but superficial, the root a bit colder. Very analytically - careful with well coordinated systems or components Cheap! With my warm rather coordinated system but not a problem. This is the version that I hear preferred preferred ribbing about my media client (Linn Akurate DS).
5. The SACD - warm in tone, bass strong, strong timbre. Voices sound soft and sympathetic. Even the normal CD layer of hybrid SACD sounds better than the "normal" CD versions. Therefore, the acquisition is also worthwhile for fans who do not have an SACD player. Sometimes, however, focuses on the vocals of Mark Knopfler somewhat into the background. Also Sting hiding a little in "Money for nothing" in the background. The SACD layer, however, is the highlight. The SACD is best suited for enjoyment and can also be good times run in the background without nerves / to be the main focus.
For me the best album ever! Who has not, has missed something the last 27 years! Therefore to - buy the SACD or XRCD! Not only to push the dahindarbenden market, but you do your ears so that something good!
