Already the first track Scream (Funk Up My Life) is just as funky as the title like promised. All of this combined with a couple of rocking sounds is a wonderful introduction to the album.
Similarly great is One Day - a bit more melodic, but also very funky. The spectrum of the album is generally very broad. Iron Sky, for example, is more reminiscent of a Soul hymn on his smoky voice is fantastic advantage. This is by far my favorite track on the album (I love the trumpet in the background). And in Fashion Janelle Monáe has a brief appearance with a tinged rap number at the end. Other tracks on the other hand sounds very soulful as if they came directly from the 60 / 70s.
Highly recommended are:
Scream (Funk Up My Life)
One Day
Iron Sky
Looking For Something
:: Conclusion ::
Yes, the album is different from These Streets. It is darker, rougher, but also become somehow more authentic. If you liked New Shoes Last Request or who may not be happy, because none of the tracks sound like that. But I think he probably got that with this album found its niche. Rarely worked for me music as real as here (Ed Sheeran belongs for example also) I might as well just do it again he say sounds authentic. For me, perhaps the first real highlights of the year.
