Since I knew the effect of the image stabilizer, especially at telephoto focal lengths of Canon lenses, I have acquired a good piece. Despite "only" 10 times magnification I find the performance better than that of comparable non-stabilized glasses because the peaceful image allows a closer look.
The 10x30 is certainly not very good for long observations in the dark adapted (eg hunters), but in normal lighting conditions for a short observations. The IS needs after switching half a second until it stabilized and optimally against a real tremor he also does not help.
Particular advantages that I see:
+ The 10x30 comes from two AA batteries, some alternatives that I've looked at, had special batteries.
+ If the batteries are empty, it still works like a normal glass
+ As far as I could tell, it is among the image-stabilized binoculars from Canon, Nikon, Fujinon and Zeiss, the cheapest product.
Disadvantages:
- Just as long as the switch for the IS is pressed, running stabilization. That may be good for the battery life, quite a lot of power and strengthened the trembling requires a little.
Suggestions for improvement:
- Canon should install the IS switch two equal and better placed switch on the bottom (instead of a switch) or an automatic mode that detects the eye to the eyepiece.
- Sturdy pocket instead labrigem bag for a decent glass would be nice
- Caps for eyepieces are slightly Captive items, a loss-proof solution would be better
Missing cover for the lenses -
- Tripod socket is missing
- A little more comfortable setting of Dioptrienasgleichs the eyepiece (greater range, fine detent)
