"Gossip" 'is indeed often a popular conversation practice, when it comes to artists, especially rock stars ... and so this Bryan Ferry solo album was 1978 often referred to as a kind of processing of the broken relationship with Jerry Hall. At least the text of "When She Walks In The Room", one of four original compositions on this CD (plus five cover versions plus a version of the Traditionals "Carrickfergus"), seems to invite the above-mentioned separation for the production of covers. But all this is secondary - if at all! - Because it is crucial that this is one of the best solo albums of Roxy Music singer. The sound is much rougher and more guitar-oriented than on previous albums Ferry. So shows "Sign Of The Times" echoes of the New Wave, while impressive "Can not Let Go" by West Coast-like guitars. "When She Walks In The Room" and "This Iceland Earth" (both listening to Ferry's 2007 tour) are marked by the characteristic piano or keyboard playing Bryan Ferry. These original songs and Ferry arrangement of "Carrickfergus" are consistently excellent. Some very successful reinterpretations, including Velvet Underground "What Goes On", make up the other half of the songs. The vocals sound here naked, much agitated and rougher than on all previous solo albums. Although holding the stylistic proximity to Roxy Music but within limits, it should be emphasized that the sugar sweetness, which are precisely on albums such as "Let's Stick Together" (1976) and had "In Your Mind" (1977) here and there crept, here largely absent is. Commercially meant "The Bride Stripped Bare" (the title is a Duchamp-bond) not too much success ... but it is in my opinion the best until then Ferry solo album, and adheres well in comparison to what will follow should, exquisite. For completists was added that "The Bride Stripped Bare" was originally planned as a double album. The songs are not published, partly revised, published over the years on B-sides, maxi-singles and compilations, and also very worth listening to. The 10 tracks on the CD can exist quite outstanding, which is why I would like to suggest a strong buy recommendation, however.
