Homecoming: Prelude to The Royal Assassin and the Raiders of the Sea (Paperback)

Customer Review

A short but very compelling story.
I started to read it and then without much conviction as I could bewitched let go.
The narrator writes a diary to witness what happens to him. Exiled from the city where she apparently lived in luxury, the young woman is left with her husband, her children and others literally abandoned in a more inhospitable swampy place.
Living conditions are very difficult. Little room, never dry spongy earth, almost permanent moisture ...
A group of people decided to go further in the hope of finding better further. The others stayed behind, organize themselves as they can. And then one day we discover a mysterious camp near the underground city, abandoned and full of riches.
Changes will begin to take place both mentally and physically ...
Like the characters in the book, we let as a reader totally captivated us also by powers, magic, the irresistible attraction of this city.
One might feel frustrated not to have sufficient explanation on this city and yet not. At least not in my case and I do not really know why.
The end portends an interesting result. One would want to know more about the post.
From what I could find on the internet, this book can be read quite independently of the other books by Robin Hobb, would be a "prelude" to these other stories that seem to happen much later on these colonized lands these exiles.
I read it a few years ago the great saga of the royal assassin but I do not remember having a relationship with. Perhaps more in the saga of the adventurers of the sea? I might hurl one of these days in to see, especially as Robin Hobb did not disappoint so far. To be continued ...
