The story is linéaire.Les characters consist of a single block without caricature. This leads to develop a violence in human relations that is still relevant today. I would even say that the book introduces a wildly modern appearance in the non fictionalized description of human relationships.
Ausi include these aspects well in the literature (narrative codes of noir) that in contemporary cinema (I think the drought of the early American film noir in some films of Martin Scorcesse). In short the book is dated: finding the world of 30s but has not aged. I highly recommend reading it to any fan of black novels and beyond. It is a milestone book. Finally the only female character of the plot - Dinah Brand - is worth seeing for its uninhibited relationship that it maintains with respect to men and Money.
