Bobby Jones Stroke of Genius A (Audio CD)

Customer Review

If you come once over the fact that Bobby Jones is not much more than the combination of the aforementioned older scores of James Horner, the CD is actually a beautiful album.
As in BRAVEHEART it can also be observed here again funny how Horner traditional Irish instruments draws on to portray Scotland, especially the Uilleann Pipes, interpreted by Horners master musician Eric Rigler. But this time he puts them almost exclusively in unison with Irish Whistle a what an interesting combination arises. Apart from not giving way Horner on its proven handling orchestra that you are already familiar from countless of his film scores.
There are plenty of musical themes on the hour Bobby Jones soundtrack. Spontaneously I counted five, two of which are close relatives of BRAVEHEART: the triumphant Wallace theme and a horn character from the "Main Title", which is assigned here in alternating Instrumentation its own meaning. Furthermore, there is a merry jig, a beautiful love theme - the herzerweichendsten in the instrumentation of Bravehearts "The Princess Pleads for Wallace's Life", can be heard in "Not Just a Game Anymore" - and a motif which may for golf in general or Bobby Jones' legend is in particular, and that both opens up the CD as well as finished.
Musically interesting album is suddenly in the middle of "Destined for Greatness" when Horner usual ingratiating chords are accompanied unexpectedly of a violin / viola line, which seems cumbersome the key adjust and allows for the first time change the mood in tragic climes. This sentiment is reinforced with the gloomy "The Painful Secret" before returning to "" A Win, Finally! '"The cheerful Golf fun. Here is finally released the first and only authentic Scottish appeal hearing: a funny, almost militaristic snare drum accompaniment that could directly come from a Scottish bagpipe march (also heard in "'He's On A Roll Now' '). Thus, it has then also already and the piece disappears before it would have led to anything Substantiellem.
At the end of the CD Horner engages briefly the execution sequence of Braveheart on (what happens to everything in the world here probably with Bobby Jones?) Before a nice conclusion suite again the main issues presented in partially new look, starting with a pretty guitar version of the love theme.
As I said, the CD is not exactly a paragon of originality, but nonetheless a beautiful listening experience. For fans and those who are not yet Horners autopilot mode weary.
