Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger & The Trinity songs have been covered in the first place, their greatest - and only - hit was Dylan's "This Wheel's On Fire". The Combo coverte "Light My Fire" (well), Donovan's "Season of the Witch" (very fine), an instrumental by Wes Montgomery, like less well-known stuff like "Save the Country" by Laura Nyro or "Indian rope man" by Richie Havens, verhob at the seething, mysterious "Road to Cairo" by David Ackles, startled not before "Hair" songs back ...
You see, much was possible in the late sixties. Some fascinating even today, some bored. The Soul-things are British supercooled and weaken, the Auger / Driscoll own compositions are good (especially the B-side of "This Wheel's On Fire", so the this compilation the eponymous song "A Kind Of Love" is a real Pearl), so one wonders why they have not have thought often to write his own songs.
The bottom line is a sparkling, freewheeling band with a great singer who had some moments forever.
