The network capability interested me very much because I am not a youtube-gazers anyway, and the few Blu-ray discs that I have, you can count on one hand. But there is hardly ever a player that costs so little and can play video files. I bought it to 44.- Euro here at the Christmas campaign.
Only for the software update I left him out of the box once to the Internet. He was very happy about that and easily installed version M19.R.0156.
I tested it with a WD My Passport 2TB and NTFS formatting. After being chosen between video or photo, everything was displayed, which can be played. However, the list structure is veeeery slow. Not that other players would be much faster, but actually I would have been wishing this for a new device to improve.
I would like to highlight the following: I have in my collection also "problem Video files", which cause problems of various players. Some can not fast-forward quickly, some break from the middle. A common feature is that the displayed time will be displayed with 0:00:00 in case of problems. This Sony player can handle it and therefore from my side the 5 star justified.
On the Internet I do not want to let him go, because frankly, scare me the license terms that you have to check off at the first access. I have really no idea what I was getting myself into and I did not buy him for that.
Conclusion: very useful device for playing video files and even Blu-ray discs if you have any.
Addendum 22.12.2014:
High-resolution video files that were recorded with (PAL) 50Hz are always reproduced with 60Hz, which unfortunately leads to a jerky image reproduction. This effect is not discussed Sony-specific and under the title "50 / 60Hz film judder" in the Internet broadly.
