In use:
I've tried both lenses in different situations. In particular, I was excited about the results, which would bring the Canon in low-light situations (open aperture 4.5 to 5.6 !, but this stabilizer), because I like to take pictures without flash.
I found it difficult at first to accept the result. But ultimately the product standing at the end is crucial for me: the picture. And since convinced me then still the Canon 10-18 IS STM.
Result:
The Tokina is really sharp. The light reflections when backlit is also available at Canon, said Tokina here scatters a bit more, the Canon, however, produces smaller focus points that can be easily corrected in Lightroom.
Ultimately, the images of the Canon with a level playing field in the closer look are a little sharper and the color reproduction is more realistic. Unpleasantly noticeable the color distortion to the contrast limits me when Tokina (but fall only when fully zoomed in to the picture and the details look pixel). Of course there is also at Canon, but are not nearly as intense.
The Canon brings a little more sharpness and more color fidelity in the picture. It also offers a few focal length stages more options. The millimeter difference (10 vs. 11 Canon Tokina) can already get that little bit, if I can not remove the object from my perspective.
Canon really focused completely silent and faster than the Tokina.
When taking pictures with little ambient light (in my theater stage and backstage without flash) the Tokina makes me Although the use lower ISO values, and thus less noise, but I quickly to cope with the shallow depth of field that I did not have in my test moments.
Conclusion:
Canon has here an excellent synergy between lens and camera manufactured and an unbeatable price! Who, however, is dependent on the full format for the focus also on the wide angle is important or a camera possesses that brings no good results at high ISO settings (the 70D as many points also in class!), Can with the Tokina recourse to a not quite as inexpensive but very valuable processed alternative.
One star deduction for the plastic processing.
