Carla and Marianne

Little French Songs (CD)

Customer Review

It is striking how aggressively reached by some friends of tolerance when we put them in the presence of a singer stamped right. As for Carla Bruni - who slept with the enemy - it is even more obvious, although its sweetness and grace seem to keep it out of reach of sputum. Personally, I had not heard from her debut album, or it was a pleasant surprise. Clear voice, catchy melodies, with some overall coherence around a rarely chosen theme by artists: France.

First, two songs are dedicated to a president of the Republic, which is not common. Musically, one dedicated to Mon Raymond is certainly more successful than the Penguin but both have a real overlay power. And the texts are funny, whether those of the song of love or one that sets a personal account. Tributes to French music are everywhere: a resemblance to Barbara here and an arrangement to Brassens thereby reversed (mean) Douce France in Italian, and of course the title track, in which Moustaki and Ferré and cross Cloclo Johnny.

Finally, listening to Carla Bruni sing softly Liberty, we say that, really, this word suits him well.
