To be the best-known work by the Italian composer, "L'Arte del Violino" Pietro Locatelli does not enjoy, far from it, a discography comparable to the Venetian tubes. The album Carmignola, which includes four of the 12 Concertos op.3, makes us regret that these are only a selection; This album, which may be a musical discovery for some, certainly will be a musical treat for all!
Yet for baroqueux buff, the real interest of this Masters cabinet may not lie in the concertos for violin, which many will possess already likely, but in the three "chamber music" accompanying disks. We find indeed the splendid double album trévisans friends in the 6 Sonatas for violin and harpsichord by Bach (BWV 1014-1019). A reading probably more rigorous than others, but a kind of unadorned purity in captivating sounds (and with an outstanding harpsichordist Marcon); almost pure Bach, quite irresistible, whose main fault was the price so far (never reappeared in economic series, to my knowledge, that is now done!).
Finally true rarity for the last CD, become difficult to find, which offers us the suite for lute and violin in A major BWV 1025 in a version reworked by / with Sylvius Leopold Weiss (so to speak THE lute master of baroque music!), to discover for all baroque musicians and lovers of music of Bach. Rarities also for the rest of the album with the Concerto for Lute, Violin and Cello in C minor Johan Kropffganss the Trietto Karl Kohaut, and the Sonata for violin and lute Friedrich Wilhelm Rust. With the lute Lutz Kirchhof, and cello by Francesco Galligioni.
Giuliano Carmignola is a violin made of character, but also finesse and refinement, a mastery of sounds in a joint made of precision and clarity to transparency, all crowned with a virtuosity fault but that is never free or demonstrative. In short, the perfect musician to reconcile recalcitrant with baroque music! (But not only baroque: see his "classic" albums for DG)
