Georgette Heyer's diverse characters have me always so much as the lovingly drawn portrayals of making English world of the 18th century. Not only thanks to the detailed descriptions of the devices up to the clothing of a dandy, country squire and "Nonsuch" about the different periods of time makes you feel part of the action, in the time and the strange places. As a counterpoint she has created two other characters, both full of kindness, gentleness and a sense of truly good behavior. This character conglomerate will be supplemented by a self-confident grandmother, who is rich but not bon ton, scheming mothers and rebellious young dandies. the mixture alone does not make it out. It is the very empathetic description of the characters, which make it clear why someone acts like that their weaknesses are aware of, and they can not always overcome. Psychological character studies at its best! Plus ground dialogues (I have "The unruly jokes" enjoyed even more in other novels such as. However, they were here just adapted the characters.
